Have not using much yet so don't realy know how long it will last. So far it's working very good. Like to give a 5 stars but like everything else, I like to leave a room for manufacture to improve on their ends.
If you like dependable and ong-lasting, like I do, think twice before getting any external hard drive from this company. I'll probably get a back-up too, since this is the third external I've tried that's failed me. I recommend that anyone looking at this external hard drive think twice before buying it. The external is still running, a noise that gets annoying when you are a light sleeper, but there is no drive recognition on my computer. I knew it was a bad sign when I did a general search on the internet of other people with the same problem, and found numerous complaints about the red light of doom. If you like helpful customer service, please consider any device other than this one.
As for me, I hope to find a local business that can recover my files and transfer them to another external hard drive. I tried a new USB cable, a new power cord, tried it on three different computers, opened the disk manager from the My Computer menu, and nothing. When trying to porblem-solve the situation, I found nothing helpful from their website. if you do buy it, buy a back-up, because it will likely crash on you. Customer service was very unhelpful. I bought my 1 TB 6 months ago, transferred all my files from an off-brand 500 MB, and started adding all my RAW photography pictures to it when one day (yesterday) the light turned red, stayed red, and my external drive disappeared from my computer.
I can return it, but I have no guarantee of regaining my files, or getting a replacement within any decent amount of time. If you depend on your external hard drive, this is not a dependable device.
May even consider buying one for friends or family. Doesn't heat up badly just warm (make sure you use the right power cables).Cons: The led light is a bit bright but using black electrical tape to cover works. An A+ product, thanks- oh and I can't comment on customer service from acom through the phone, since I haven't had any problems. Had mine over a year bought two more and haven't had any problems. Cheers to all.Pros: Sleek and quiet fan-less accessory.
Its rather cheap and it does what its suppose to do. This lasted me a long time, until I have my fall I'll post it here stating what went wrong, until then it works flawlessly. I own a 500-650GB and a 1TB drive. Solid built, its stack-able ;), easy to open if you take it out for parts or moving it to another drive or enclosure. Been reading so many bad reviews, if your not clumsy and or dumb this product is for you.
I keep my stuff organized, clean it when possible (from dust) and turn it on from time to time. I did send them an email on a question about the enclosures and received a prompt reply with helpful information.
Should have gone with a name brand. GONE, but not forgotten. This worked fine for about 4 months. Then one day. I can get a file out of it here in there, but it's toast.
